SONNETS OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY: THE FLIGHT INTO EGYPT

THE FLIGHT INTO EGYPT

But seeking Herod did not harm the Lord
An angel ordered Joseph in a dream
To take the mother and the Child, God's Word,
And flee to Egypt's land and its Nile stream
It wasn't easy for the family
To travel such a distance O so long
And to make matters worse, the holy three
Were unfamiliar with the Egyptian tongue
Later in Egypt they eventually learned
that Herod the King died at last
"Pack, Mary!" said Joseph, as always concerned
to wipe out the hurts of the past
The family arrived back in Nazareth's fold
When Jesus, the Son of God, was six years old
