Mother Mary and
exorcism ministry
The Christian Church understands
exorcism within the reality of spiritual warfare. An exorcism is an act
of the Church's prayer against the influence or oppression of evil. The exorcism is centred
upon the authority of Jesus Christ.
Christ is the Redeemer Who conquered sin and death. The authority exercised in Christian exorcism ultimately comes from Lord Jesus.
Church rites place strong emphasis
upon the name of Jesus, Sacred Scripture, prayer, the Cross, and the
sacraments. Mother Mary's role within the exorcism ministry is one of intercession, not independent
authority.
Christian tradition has frequently
invoked the Blessed Virgin during spiritual warfare. Mary has unique
relationship to Christ and maternal care for the faithful. Mary’s presence serves
as reminder that evil is not overcome through human strength; evil is overcome
through God's grace.
The humble Virgin Mary stands in
profound contrast to the pride associated with satan. Mother Mary's whole
existence declares: "Let it be done to me according to Your Word". 11 The
spiritual battle therefore finds one of its deepest Christian answers in
humility and complete dependence upon God.
