The Gerard Family and Joseph Gerard had great devotion to Mary of Nazareth. Joseph left his home as a young man in order to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. The booklet 'Father Joseph Gerard - Apostle of Lesotho' is dedicated to all missionaries, past and present who, like Father Joseph Gerard, have borne or are bearing the burden of the heat of the day. May his example be an inspiration and a source of perseverance to them all. The booklet was written in honour of the visit of Pope John Paul II to Lesotho in September 1988, and was dedicated to the memory of my beloved brother-in-law John Joseph Chappel, Born 4 December 1928 and died in 9 June 1988. May his dear soul rest in peace.
