Mother Mary and
Christian life
The greatest lesson from God about
Mother Mary is not simply that humankind should admire her. It is that all
should imitate her. Mary is the New Eve, the Woman whose complete faith and
obedience caused her to be honoured by God as full of grace. 56
Mary’s Magnificat revealed the disposition of her heart: "My soul magnifies the Lord.”57 Her spirituality is one of humility. Mother Mary does not attempt to draw attention away from God; rather, she glorifies Him.
The more the Church understands Mary,
the more deeply the Church should understand Christ. Mary's purpose is always
Christological. She is Mother who advises: "Do whatever he tells
you." 58 These words remain
one of the simplest - yet most profound - summaries of Marian spirituality.
