“It is truly fitting to
bless You, O Theotokos, the ever-blessed and all-pure, and the Mother of our
God; more honourable than the Cherubim and incomparably more glorious than the
Seraphim; You, who incorruptibly gave birth to God, the Logos, verily the
Theotokos, we magnify.” – The Akathist Hymn,p10
Foreword
Throughout the history of the Church,
Mother Mary has held a unique place in the mystery of salvation. Called by God
as Mother of Jesus Christ, her faithful fiat united her with the saving
mission of her Son. While Christ alone is the Redeemer, the Church has long
reflected upon Mary’s singular participation in His redemptive work, giving
rise to titles such as Co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix, and Mother of All Graces.
These titles seek to express Mary’s
unique co-operation with Divine grace, while recognising Christ as sole
Redeemer. From Annunciation to Calvary
and Pentecost, Mary’s life exemplifies compassion, faith, prayer and obedience.
Her maternal presence has remained significant in the Church’s understanding of
Christian discipleship and spiritual struggle.
Marian
Roles and Titles within Redemptive Ministry brings together
theological inquiry and spiritual reflection regarding Mary’s participation in the
mystery of redemption. Authentic Marian devotion always leads to Christ, the
one Redeemer. Mary’s maternal co-operation illuminates the depth of God’s
redeeming grace.
