Tearless, Anne watched her

climb up the temple stairs alone.

Wisdom like hers weeps not

for incense burning

[1] According to tradition, in accordance with a pious Jewish practice, the Blessed Virgin Mary was taken up to the Temple by her parents, Anna and Joachim, when she was only three years old.  Here she remained to be educated, perform certain labours and assist at liturgical celebrations.  The feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on 21 November.
