HAIL MARY (AVE MARIA)

HAIL MARY
(AVE MARIA)

Hail Mary,
Full of grace,
The Lord is with thee,
Blessed art thou among women
And blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus,
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
Pray for us, sinners, now
And in the hour of our death.
Amen

THE MAID OF NAZARETH

THE MAID OF NAZARETH

A little Maid of Nazareth
in sweet delight caressed
a downy, bright-eyed fledgling
fallen from its nest.

In answer to its frightened cry,
like the flurry of breeze
anxious twittering songsters
fluttered from the trees.

The same sweet Maid of Nazareth
gently to her pressed
the little truant Son of God
soft-breathing there, at rest.

In swift and eager answer
to His first waking sigh
a myriad of angels
swept from the sky.

THE VIRGIN'S NAME WAS MARY

THE VIRGIN'S NAME WAS MARY

Your name is as oil poured out
on our smarting spirits,
on our groaning hearts,
O Mary,
your name is oasis in our wasteland of waiting,
it is wine after the black bread of regret,
after love's white fast.

Your name is like a silence full of bells.

Mary, your name is a pause in song,
it is the moment before flight,
your name is a waterfall of fragrance,
it is a crystal dance of sound,
Mary,
your name is a basilica of cool darkness
for the frightened, the deserters
who have no place to pray.

Your name is as oil poured out
on the troubled waters of the world.
Your name is like a silence full of bells.

LATE FINDINGS ON THE BOOK OF REVELATION REGARDING THE SEARCH FOR THE WOMAN

LATE FINDINGS ON THE BOOK OF REVELATION
REGARDING THE SEARCH FOR THE WOMAN

I. "A woman clothed with the Sun ..."
(Revelation 12:1)

                             To the Sun
Why do you idle without her
at small task of universe-lighting,
burning for pastime blazed hole in the sky?

Tell me, why are you not busy
with hanging in fire-folds around her?
And why she discarded your vesture?
I search for the Mother. Where is she?

She is down on earth, mending the world.

II. "With the moon beneath her feet ..."

                             To the Moon
Here is white clue of her standing?
Clear footprints she left on your silvered
surface indented by feet swiftly gone.

Why did she step from the platform
you offered for floor of her treading?
Say, I beseech you, why spurning
by Queen of you? Where has she gone?

She went down to earth needing mending

III. "And on her head a crown of twelve stars ..."

                             To the Stars
How strange discovery halts me
on search for the Queen! -twelve lorn stars
strewn over planets when crown was dropped down

In haste of her going to answer
small piteous cry that made summons
to Queen's heart, untilted the stars,
left stellar coronal for business
of Mother. But where? Tell me where has she gone?

She is down on earth, mending the world.

AVE MARIS STELLA - TWO

AVE MARIS STELLA
Ave Maris Stella - Latin for "Hail Star of the Sea" - is a plainsong Vespers hymn to Mary the Mother of God. The hymn was composed circa eighth century.

HYMN LYRICS
Ave, maris stella,
Dei mater alma, atque semper virgo, felix cœli porta.
Hail, star of the sea,
Nurturing Mother of God,
And ever Virgin
Happy gate of Heaven
Sumens illud «Ave»
Gabrielis ore, funda nos in pace, mutans Evæ nomen.
Receiving that "Ave" (hail)
From the mouth of Gabriel,
Establish us in peace,
Transforming the name of "Eva" (Eve).
Solve vincla reis,
profer lumen cæcis, mala nostra pelle, bona cuncta posce.
Loosen the chains of the guilty,
Send forth light to the blind,
Our evil do thou dispel,
Entreat (for us) all good things.
Monstra te esse matrem,
sumat per te precem qui pro nobis natustulit esse tuus.
Show thyself to be a Mother:
Through thee may he receive prayer
Who, being born for us,
Undertook to be thine own.
Virgo singularis,
inter omnes mitis, nos culpis solutosmites fac et castos.
O unique Virgin,
Meek above all others,
Make us, set free from (our) sins,
Meek and chaste.
Vitam præsta puram,
iter para tutum,ut videntes Jesumsemper collætemur.
Bestow a pure life,
Prepare a safe way:
That seeing Jesus,
We may ever rejoice.
Sit laus Deo Patri,
summo Christo decus,Spiritui Sanctotribus honor unus. Amen.
Praise be to God the Father,
To the Most High Christ (be) glory,
To the Holy Spirit
(Be) honour, to the Three equally. Amen.
